"We support the farmers’ agitation on Novembere 22" - Comrade P.Maniyarasan!

The Cauvery Urimai Meetpu Kuzhu has resolved to support a stir planned by the farmers’ associations in the delta districts on November 22 against Karnataka’s bid to construct reservoirs across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.

If the upper riparian State went ahead with the dam plan, then the Kuzhu will organise a rally from Hogenakkal to the reservoir plan site to thwart the move.

A resolution passed at a special meeting of the Kuzhu here on Monday condemned the delay on the part of the Centre in establishing a Cauvery Management Board. It called upon Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam to convene an all party meeting to discuss the issue and impress upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to counsel Karnataka against going ahead with the reservoir plan, according to Kuzhu convener P. Maniyarasan.

The resolution pointed out that if Karnataka were to implement the reservoir plan, then the delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam would become deserts, starved of water.
